Subject Intent:

We aspire to give our students a broad knowledge and understanding of music over time through an engaging, relevant and exciting curriculum. Students are inspired to be the ‘best that they can be’ and to develop the skills, passion and abilities to become lifelong musicians with the transferable skills of confidence, expression, insight, exploration and reflection.


GCSE Examination Board: EDUQAS

GCSE Assessment Method: Practical assessed and moderated solo and ensemble performances: 30%, Two assessed and moderated compositions (one to a brief published by the exam board): 30%, Written Exam: 40%

A Level Examination Board: EDUQAS

A Level Assessment Method: Pathway A:Composition Folio (25%) Recital (visiting examiner) (35%). Pathway B: Composition Folio (35%) Recital (visiting examiner) (25%).

Where music can take you:

Music benefits learning by activating all areas of the brain: auditory (sound processing), motor (rhythm processing) and limbic (emotions). Studying music opens doors to many opportunities including pursuing further studies, becoming a professional musician or working in related arts/creative industry (tv, theatre, radio, teaching, sound technician, music therapist).  Music is highly regarded as an academic subject in professions such as medicine, law and accountancy. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, music is fun and relaxing, an international language, builds self-esteem and relieves stress for all.
