Subject Intent

The overarching aim of the Mathematics Faculty is that ‘all our students, regardless of background or ability, will become inquisitive, analytical and independent learners who can apply their understanding to a wide range of familiar and unfamiliar contexts.’

Our Key Stage 3 curriculum focuses on developing our students’ resilience with inquiry-based tasks; allowing for opportunities to spot patterns, predict outcomes and form sound understanding of the fundamental structures of maths.

At Key Stage 4 we aim to build on the foundations of Year 7 and 8 by continuing to explore new themes with the use of rich tasks and goal-free problems, familiarising students with key concepts and ideas for long-term recall.

At Key Stage 5 we offer courses to cater for all students continuing to study maths, whether that is; learning and applying maths to real world contexts in Level 3 Core Maths or extending techniques learnt at GCSE and introducing new methods and concepts in A-level Maths. For those students who are potentially interested in pursuing Maths-related careers upon leaving Year 13, we offer A-level Further Maths. We also continue to support those students with resits who are yet to achieve a Grade 4 at GCSE.
