Academy Transformation Trust

Mildenhall Academy is part of the Academy Transformation Trust family of academies.

We believe every child matters and deserves a first class education. Our team knows first-hand how to make education better for schools, pupils and their teachers.

For us, the future of UK education relies upon schools working closely together to share best practices, giving every child the best chance in life. We set up ATT to make this vision a reality.

As a not for profit trust, we work with our growing family of primary and secondary academies and further education provider in the Midlands, East of England and South East.

Our mission is to provide the very best education for all pupils and the highest level of support for our staff to ensure every child leaves our academies with everything they need to reach their full potential.

The aim of the Maths department at Mildenhall College Academy is to equip young people with the necessary mathematical skills required for their futures. This is done in a variety of ways and our key aim is to develop our students’ interest in mathematics and make it an enjoyable experience for them during their time here at the College.

Elements of mathematics are seen all around us in life and we aim to promote our students’ understanding of this while gaining enjoyment from their discoveries. Students are given opportunities to think logically about things and solve problems in a range of contexts, both independently and as part of a group.

Key Stage 3

In years 7 and 8 students focus on four main areas of study:

  • Number
  • Algebra
  • Statistics
  • Geometry

In these topics they build on their KS2 knowledge and start to prepare for KS4. There is also a focus on continuing to reinforce the importance of mental recollection of number facts. Every student’s ability is catered for and classes are established to ensure each student is working at the correct level. Students who are gifted and talented in mathematics get the opportunity to compete in the UK Junior Mathematics Challenge each year. Those students who are successful will go onto compete in the next rounds.

Students who are gifted and talented in mathematics get the opportunity to compete in the UK Intermediate Mathematics Challenge each year. Those students who are successful will go onto compete in the next rounds.

Key Stage 5

Key Stage 5 offers those students with a keen interest and ability in the study of mathematics to continue their studies subject over 2 years. Alongside A Level mathematics , those exceptional students also have the option of choosing to study the Further Mathematics course as well. A Level Further Mathematics B MEI is a linear qualification which works alongside A Level Mathematics, it extends the concepts further. In year 12 you will study pure mathematics, statistics and numerical methods. IN year 13 you will continue with pure mathematics and also look at some more mechanics.
