Year 9 – 11 BTEC Dance
BTEC Dance is a nationally recognised qualification which is suitable for anyone who has an active interest in Dance. The qualification demands performers to demonstrate both practical and theoretical understanding of dance and the performing arts industry.
BTEC is a vocational option that is graded on a pass, merit and distinction basis and is the equivalent of two GCSEs at grade C or above. The course is coursework based and is assessed throughout the two years. The course does not have an external exam.
BTEC Dance consists of four double lessons a week, which comprise of both theory and practical lessons, determined by the unit being studied. During the practical sessions, pupils will be expected to demonstrate varied dance styles and techniques showing performance skills and body management.
The three units that make up the course are:
1. Performing Dance
2. Contemporary Dance
3. Development of Dance
Pupils will be involved in workshops from dance companies and will attend trips to watch dance performances by professional companies. We also stage three dance productions each year.
